Seimone Augustus joins LSU staff as assistant coach
NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTVE/KARD) – Seimone Augustus recently joined LSU Lady Tigers as an assistant coach under head coach Kim Mulkey. Additionally, she was the sole woman inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame for the Class of 2024, adding to her accolades.
“You know, I guess it was a long time coming,” said Augustus. “I wasn’t even expecting it. I was speaking to a season ticket holder earlier and she was like, ‘Divine timing?’ and I was like, ‘It really was.’ You know, the fact that I received a phone call from Coach Starkey intentionally just kinda checking my temperature, like, ‘You still wanna coach?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, I wanna coach,’ and he was like, ‘Alright, how do you feel about being on the staff?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah!’ And so next thing I know Coach Mulkey’s calling me and telling me all these wonderful things, but I think the most amazing thing about what she said in our 3-week interview process was that, I always worried about my voice and how well would I speak, or would the ladies receive my information as I’m trying to articulate it to them, and she was like, ‘Be yourself.’ And that’s one of the hardest things for anyone to do as you all know. We walk out of the house, we put on our masks — our defensive mechanism and we gone onto the world and present ourselves. But for someone, especially someone like Coach Mulkey who every day, as we know, she comes out as herself. She’s gonna put her shiny gear on, she’s gonna talk her talk, she’s gonna do her thing. For her to be able to allow me to come to her staff and just observe, but also gain a lot of knowledge and wisdom throughout my early coaching journey, It’s gonna be amazing just to kinda see how unfolding become myself.”
